There is no single right answer. It depends on the fabric of the house, the fuel available, how you live in it and what funding you can get.
Takes heat from outside air and delivers three to four units of heat for each unit of electricity. Best in a reasonably insulated home with room for a larger radiator or two. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme pays £7,500 towards it and we apply on your behalf. Heat pumps →
For homes on room heaters, storage heaters or solid fuel that have never had a full system. Boiler or heat pump, radiators in every room, pipework, controls and certification. First time central heating →
Where gas is not an option and a heat pump does not suit the property, modern high heat retention storage heaters, panel heaters and a new hot water cylinder, sized to each room and controllable. This is the package we deliver on housing programmes such as Aspire Housing’s.
The same surveyors, the same standards and the same handover, whether it is your house or every home on a landlord’s upgrade programme.
A free heating assessment looks at the fabric of the house, the existing system, the radiators and how you use the heating, then recommends a system and tells you what funding applies.
Heating upgrades sit at the centre of whole house retrofit programmes, and the assessment and coordination are done by our own people under PAS 2035.

On Aspire Housing’s £1.3 million whole house programme in Newcastle under Lyme and Staffordshire, ageing storage and panel heaters and immersion cylinders were replaced with modern, controllable electric heating and hot water, alongside ventilation, windows and loft insulation. Every home upgraded in year one moved from band D or E to band C.

Funding changes often, so ask us for the current position. As of September 2026 the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 towards an air source heat pump, the Warm Homes: Local Grant runs through councils for eligible lower income households, and social landlords have the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund. We will tell you honestly whether you are likely to qualify.
Homeowners get a free heating assessment and an honest recommendation. Housing providers and contractors get heating upgrades surveyed and coordinated under PAS 2035.
